Seanad bye-election 2022
Tom Clonan was elected in the Seanad Éireann University of Dublin bye-election. The vacancy was caused by the resignation of Ivana Bacik who was elected to Dáil Éireann in July 2021.
Dáil bye-election 2021
Ivana Bacik was elected to Dáil Éireann in the Dublin Bay South bye-election. The vacancy was caused by the resignation of Eoghan Murphy.
Seanad bye-elections 2021
Bye-elections took place in April 2021 to fill two vacancies in the Seanad caused by the resignations of Senator Michael D’Arcy and Senator Elisha McCallion.

When do general elections take place?
The Dáil must be dissolved and a general election held at least every five years. A Seanad election takes place up to 90 days after Dáil Éireann has dissolved. Irish elections use the proportional representation system.

Seanad elections: Who's who
The Returning Officer for Seanad elections is the Clerk of the Seanad.
The bodies entitled to nominate candidates for Seanad elections are listed in the Register of Nominating Bodies.
The electoral roll for each Seanad election is compiled after the dissolution of the Dáil. In a Seanad bye-election, only Members of Dáil and Seanad Éireann may vote.
